Advice for CPD providers

This page provides guidance for organisations that arrange meetings and courses which may be of interest to participants in the RCOG’s CPD programme.

The RCOG doesn’t accredit meetings and courses for continuing medical education (CME) or continuing professional development (CPD) that are arranged by external organisations. Instead, delegates judge for themselves the educational value of an event.

To claim CPD credits for an external event, participants in the RCOG’s CPD programme must provide a certificate of attendance, supplied by the event organiser. We ask all CPD providers to:

  • Provide an electronic certificate of attendance (the RCOG programme uses an online tool to record and store evidence of CPD activities)
  • Provide delegates with detailed, accurate information; the publicity material setting out the full event programme should provide:
    • Clear description of the primary audience, and others who may find the event useful
    • Content and level of the subject matter
    • Educational aims of the event
    • Format (lectures, workshops, seminars, etc.)
    • Personnel involved (course leaders, speakers, etc.)
    • Material that will be supplied to support the event and enable participants to undertake further studies (reports, speakers’ contributions, etc.)
  • Evaluate the event: there should be a written event evaluation, with participants invited to rate various components of the event (e.g. content of syllabus, quality of speakers, overall educational value, etc.)
  • Provide a summary of the evaluation: delegates may wish to see the results of the evaluation

If your meeting is potentially of interest to other specialties, please note that you will need to apply to the appropriate medical royal college to seek CME/CPD accreditation for those specialties.
