This page explains the steps required to book the MRCOG Part 1 exam
1. Create an RCOG account
To take our exams, you must have an RCOG account.
If you have already booked or taken an RCOG exam, you already have an account. It's essential to use the same account so that we can keep all your information in the same place.
If you do not have an RCOG account, create a new account with us by clicking 'Register' at the top of your screen.
2. Eligibility
For new, first-time candidates, you must submit our eligibility form below and having it approved. You must submit your eligibility form, a scanned copy of your medical degree and government issued ID in order for your application to be reviewed/approved.
If you have previously sat an MRCOG exam you are already eligible and do not need to complete another eligibility application.
MRCOG Part 1 eligibility form
In order to sit the MRCOG Part 1 exam, you must submit your Part 1 Eligibility application by the appropriate deadline. Key deadline dates can be found here. You can download the form below:
Key information about eligibility
If you have already taken the MRCOG Part 1 exam, you are already eligible to sit the exam.
For an opportunity to book a place, please complete the Expression of interest form.
If you have never taken the Part 1 MRCOG exam before, you must submit an eligibility application and have it approved.
You must first have your eligibility application processed and approved, before you can receive a booking token.
If your eligibility has been approved already, you do not need to apply again.
However, it's essential that you use the same RCOG college number to complete the Expression of interest form.
If your application is missing any details or contains errors, you will not be able to book.
Please ensure you have completed the whole form and attached your medical degree certificate and government ID (Passport/Driving Licence).
If we are unable to verify your degree certificate in the first instance, then we will ask you to email an attested photocopy version instead.
Make sure that the name on your government ID matches your application form and medical degree certificate. If you have changed your name at any point, please provide evidence of the change (for example, marriage certificate).
Do not post us any original documents as we cannot return them.
Please allow up to 4 weeks after the published closing date for your Part 1 Eligibility application to be processed.
If approved, you will be then eligible to book a place on the Part 1 MRCOG exam.
It is not possible for the RCOG to accept late applications.
3. Expression of interest
For an opportunity to book into available spaces on the next MRCOG Part 1 exam, candidates must first complete an Expression of Interest form, within the required deadline for each exam.
Please check the ‘Calendar and Fees’ section of the ‘Book an exam’ page for details of timelines for upcoming exams.
Please note: first-time candidates do not have to wait for the outcome of their MRCOG Part 1 Eligibility application before submitting an Expression of Interest form.
However, they will only be given a chance to book a place once the booking window opens if their MRCOG Part 1 eligibility application form has been submitted within the required deadline and has been approved.
A candidate must submit a new Expression of Interest form ahead of each exam they would like an opportunity to book a place. Forms submitted for an opportunity to book a place on previous exams will not be valid.
4. Search and book available Pearson VUE test centres for July 2023
Eligible candidates who successfully submitted an Expression of Interest form will have received an email when the application window opened with instructions on how to book an exam place at available Pearson VUE test centres.
- Log in using only the email address and password you normally use to access your RCOG account.
- You will be redirected to the RCOG Exam Candidate Portal and be able to search and book into available test centre spaces.
- Please note: The default search option will display the closest test centres to your registered address.
- Please be aware that all places are available on a first come first served basis and we cannot guarantee all test centres listed will still have availability at the time candidates log in to the booking system.
- See further information regarding our move to computer-based testing.
Candidates must submit a completed Expression of Interest form before the deadline.
Candidates who have approved eligibility and have submitted an Expression of Interest form will receive a booking token.
A booking token does not guarantee a place on the next exam, just an opportunity to book into available spaces when the booking window opens.
At this stage, candidates will have the option to book an exam in a country location that is available at the time of booking.
Candidates booked into a country location will be contacted to schedule a slot in one of Pearson VUE’s test centres.
Candidates are only permitted to book into a Pearson VUE test centre in the country location they have chosen, booked and paid for.
