Speakers

Professor Richard Smith

Professor J. Richard Smith MD, FRCOG is a consultant gynaecological surgeon at the West London Gynaecological Cancer Centre, Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College NHS Trust. He was Adjunct Associate Professor at the New York University School of Medicine from 2001 to 2021 and is currently Professor of Practice, Imperial College London.

His main surgical interest is fertility-sparing surgery and his research interest is the development of uterine transplantation, both from live and deceased donors. He is the chairman of the charity Womb Transplant UK and leader of the UK research team. He is an Honorary Consultant in Transplantation Surgery at the University of Oxford hospitals. He is also involved with research related to endometrial transplantation, endometrial stem cell research and novel treatments for vulval cancers. He has over 200 peer reviewed publications as well as numerous reviews and articles.

Miss Isabel Quiroga

Miss Isabel Quiroga was born and obtained her medical degree in Spain. She trained in the North Midlands, Cardiff and Oxford. She has a DPhil from Oxford University and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She is a consultant transplant and endocrine surgeon in Oxford and Clinical Lead for Organ Retrieval. She was course director of the National Organ Retrieval Masterclass and developed courses in organ donation and retrieval with colleagues in India, China and Turkey.

With colleagues at Imperial College London, she established the first uterus transplant programme in the UK.

Dr Tim Bracewell-Milnes

Dr Tim Bracewell-Milnes is a consultant gynaecologist and subspecialist in reproductive medicine and surgery, working at The Lister Fertility Clinic, Chelsea, the largest and one of the best performing fertility units in the UK.

Tim is passionate about research and has undertaken a PhD focusing on the treatment aspects of egg donation and egg sharing, the largest study to investigate this issue worldwide. He currently holds university positions with Imperial College London and Bournemouth University. He has worked with the Womb Transplant UK research team since 2014, focusing on the pre-transplant fertility aspects of patients' care.
