This guidance is for healthcare professionals to aid the provision of appropriate and balanced information about the potential benefits, risks and alternative to amniocentesis for prenatal diagnosis, with the aim of supporting meaningful discussions tailored to the individual’s needs as part of an informed decision-making and consent process.
This Consent Advice was developed by the RCOG Patient Safety Committee based on available evidence from the RCOG Green-top Guideline No. 8 Amniocentesis and Chorionic Villus Sampling.
